    Pastoral Planning Council

The Pastoral Planning Council is a visioning and planning body of parishioners who foster full participation of the entire parish in the life and mission of the church as lived in St. Andrew the Apostle Parish. In consultation with the pastor, the Pastoral Planning Council actively listen to and identifies the needs and concerns of the people and has developed a Parish Pastoral Plan to respond to these needs.

Thank you to all who participated in the Parish Assemblies. All totaled 545 people participated. Thank your for your support. click here for the Planning Questionnaire

Some three and a half years ago the Diocese of Brooklyn asked all the parishes in Brooklyn and Queens to have a Pastoral Planning Council. Pastoral Councils are visionary bodies that take a broad view of the community. They are asked to look at the total picture of parish life, the total mission of the parish, and all the people in the parish. With this wide view, each Parish Pastoral Council creates a plan that helps the parish live out the mission in their particular place. This group serves as a major advisory group to the pastor of the parish.

When the Pastoral Planning Council formed a few years ago, St. Andrew council members interviewed 150 parishioners to learn about their thoughts, concerns and hopes for the parish. The Pastoral Council also conducted a Parish Assembly. The Parish Assembly met in Kiernan Hall and parishioners met in groups and discussed how to build an even stronger Faith Community at St. Andrew’s. Members of the Council created four Parish Goals based on the information learned from the personal interviews, and the data received at the Parish Assembly.

Members of the Council led reflection nights inviting parishioners to pray and reflect about ways to accomplish the four goals. Each facilitator of the reflection group invited participants to create objectives that would help accomplish the goals.

All of the above efforts created the St. Andrew the Apostle Parish Plan. This plan was submitted to the diocese in December of 2007 and the Pastoral Council continues to advise the Pastor on how to meet the goals and objectives of the Plan. Right now, the PPC has asked parishioners to consider being part of the PPC. Some council members are coming to the end of a three year term.
